Bangladesh beat Netherlands by 25 runs in a Group D match of ICC T20 World Cup to virtually cement their place in next stage; they just need to beat Nepal or hope the Dutch lose to Sri Lanka

Bangladesh won their Group D match of ICC T20 World Cup against Netherlands by 25 runs to put one step in the Super 8s.

Bangladesh need to now beat Nepal or hope that Netherlands lose to Sri Lanka, both of which are very likely.

Batting first, Bangladesh made 159/5 in 20 overs with Shakib Al Hasan scoring 64 not out (off 46 balls) and Tanzid Hasan making 35 (26 balls).

Aryan Dutt took 2/17 while Paul van Meekeren snared 2/15.

Netherlands finished with 134/8 in 20 overs with leg-spinner Rishad Hossain taking 3/33 and Taskin Ahmed picking 2/30.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib said after the match, “It was important for someone from top-four to bat through the innings. Happy to contribute. It was a tough pitch at the start, we held our nerves.”

He said that the total they set was challenging and not a winning one.

“It was a challenging total, not a winning one, but bowlers chipped in perfectly.”

Scott Edwards acknowledged that Bangladesh were better in all regards.

“We lost in all three departments. Credit to Bangladesh, they were great and we weren't up to it. They kept wickets in hand.”

Shakib was adjudged Player of the Match for his innings.
