For a change, Bangladesh pace bowlers run through the Pakistan batting line-up to win the second Test and the two-Test series 2-0 at Rawalpindi
Bangladesh, whose reliance on spin bowling is widely known used pace to dismantle Pakistan and win the second Test by six wickets in Rawalpindi and take the two-Test series 2-0.
Bangladesh had won the first Test by 10 wickets.
This is inarguably Bangladesh’s greatest Test series win since this is only the second time that Pakistan have been whitewashed at home.
Pace bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana took 5/43 and 4/44 while Taskin Ahmed took one wicket as Pakistan faced heat from an aspect they had dominated for years. Rana was sizzling as he bowled at a searing pace that caught the batsmen unawares.
Bangladesh had recovered from 26/6 to score 262 in the first innings after Pakistan had scored 274. They then bowled out their host for 172 before reaching the 185-run target for the loss of four wickets.
“It means a lot. We can't express, we are really happy. I think before we came here, we were looking to win here, and the way everyone did their job, I am really happy,” said Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
He praised the bowling unit.
“The bowling unit is very impressive. I think the most important thing is their work ethic,” he said.
Pakistan skipper Shan Masood was very disappointed.
“Extremely disappointed, especially when you start the home season, something we've all been very excited about. We waited 10 months for this opportunity. The story has been a bit of the same, like, in Australia [where they lost 3-0 after having their chances]. We haven't learnt our lessons.”
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was adjudged Player of the Series for his 10 wickets and 155 runs. Liton Das was Player of the Match in the second TEst for his 138 that saw Bangladesh recover from 26/6. Mushfiqur Rahim was the Player of the Match in the first Test for his 191.
