Jasprit Bumrah flies home to attend the birth of his first child and be with wife Sanjana. He won't be playing against Nepal on Monday, leaving the young cricket nation's batsmen possibly relieved
Nepal, who play India in Asia Cup cricket on Monday, will probably breathe a sigh of relief at the news of Indian TV host Sanjana Ganesan becoming a mother.
No, it is not about Sanjana contacting any Nepalese child birth expert. It is just that she is the wife of Jasprit Bumrah, who leads the Indian bowling attack and is one of the most effective bowlers in international cricket.
Bumrah has left the Sri Lankan shores, where he is with the Indian team for the ongoing Asia Cup, and will be with his wife in Mumbai during her delivery, according to reports in the Indian media. This will be one opportunity for him to witness a delivery in which he took the initial strides but won’t take the final delivery stride.
It is only fair that he is with his wife during her delivery, a most excruciating but fulfilling one, for she has already witnessed him bowling thousands of deliveries on the cricket field amid relentless back pain.
Bumrah absence will provide Nepalese batsmen with some relief after their dismal experience against Pakistan the other day when they were blown away for 104. That was also their Asia Cup debut.
However, Nepal will have to contend with the other bowlers, including Mohammad Shami, who will most probably get a look-in as a replacement for Shami for this match.
