Sam Billings, who has played over 300 T20s, joins Antigua & Barbuda Falcons as replacement of Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai
Sam Billings will be part of the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons squad for the 2024 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The England international will replace Afghanistan international Azmatullah Omarzai who is no longer available for this year’s event.
Omarzai will be busy with the Afghanistan team for the Test against New Zealand in Greater Noida, India.
“Billings has played more than 300 T20 matches around the world having represented teams in England, India, Australia and Pakistan. With more than 6,000 runs in T20s, he will bring fire power and experience to the Falcons line up,” said a statement from the Caribbean Premier League.
The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons are a new franchise for the 2024 season and will be playing in the tournament’s opening match on August 29 against their closest rivals, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
First started in 2013, the CPL is a franchise-based T20 format cricket tournament that combines two of the most compelling aspects of Caribbean life – dramatic cricket and a vibrant carnival atmosphere.
The 2024 tournament will take place from August 29 to October 6. The broadcast and digital viewership in 2023 was 853.5 million making it one of the most watched leagues in world cricket. Guyana Amazon Warriors are the CPL champions, and the other franchise teams are Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings, and Trinbago Knight Riders.
