18 Sep, 2023

Mehran Khan's all-round show helped Oman defeat Qatar by 19 runs before UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem powered his team to an eight-wicket victory over Saudi Arabia in the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship

Right-arm medium pace bowling all-rounder Mehran Khan took 3/17 and scored 24 off 24 balls as Oman defeated Qatar by 19 runs in the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Sunday evening.

Oman were struggling at 32/4 at one point in time before Mehran, batting at No. 6, and left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed (23 off 17 balls) added 39 runs for the fifth wicket.

Rafiullah chipped in with 11-ball 21.

New ball bowler Muhammad Jabir took 4/37 as Oman were dismissed for 149 on the last ball of the 20th over.

In response for Qatar, openers Imal Liyanage (19 off 18) and Saqlain Arshad (31 off 37 balls) added 50 for the first wicket in seven and a half overs.

However, Mehran removed both of them in quick succession and soon No. 3 Adnan Mirza was run out.

Mehran took out Mirza Mohammed Baig as his third wicket and host Qatar lost their way after that.

Mehran got the Player of the Match award.

Brief Scores: Oman 149 all out in 20 overs (Mohammad Nadeem 36, Mehran Khan 24, Rafiullah 21, Muhammad Jabir 4/37) beat Qatar 130/7 in 20 overs (Saqlain Arshad 31, Jassim Khan 26, Mehra Khan 3/17)
