Ian Bell joins Sri Lanka Cricket on tour of England

The former England batsman, who has played 118 Test matches and scored over 7,000 runs, will help the Sri Lankans with local knowledge

Sri Lanka Cricket has hired the services of former England batsman Ian Bell for the team’s upcoming tour of England that involves three Test matches.

“He will start working with the team on August 16 and remain until the conclusion of the three-Test match series,” said a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket.

The former England batsman has played in 118 Test matches and scored 7,727 runs at an average of 42.69.

He has 22 Test centuries under his belt.

“We appointed Ian to bring in a person with local knowledge to help the players with key insights on the conditions there. Ian has a lot of experience playing in England, and we believe his inputs will help our team in this crucial tour,” said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Sri Lanka are already playing a four-day tour match that will end on August 17.

They will then play three Tests. The first Test will be played be played at Old Trafford from August 21 to 25, the second Test will be played at Lord’s from August 29 to September 2. The third and final Test will be played at the Kensington Oval from September 6-10.

The two teams have played 18 Test matches in England, with Sri Lanka winning three and England winning eight. Seven Tests have been drawn.

Sri Lanka’s victories have come in 1998 at The Oval, in 2006 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, and in 2014 at Lord’s in London.
