India equalled Sri Lanka's record of most wins in T20 World Cup history by beating Bangladesh by 50 runs in North Sound, Antigua; South Africa beat England while West Indies crush USA

India equalled Sri Lanka’s record of most wins in T20 World Cup history after they defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in a 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 game in North Sound, Antigua on June 22.

This was India’s 32nd win in T20 World Cup and was scripted by Hardik Pandya’s half-century (50 off 27 balls) that took India to 196/5 in 20 overs.

The total was a bit too much for the Bangladeshis, who had shocked and ousted India in the 2007 edition of 50-over World Cup in the West Indies only.

Virat Kohli (37 off 28 balls) and Rishabh Pant (36 off 24 balls) were the leading scorers for India besides Pandya.

Bangladesh’s response wasn’t that good. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 146/8 in 20 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) was the pick of the bowlers for the Indians.

While India and Sri Lanka have won 32 matches each in the tournament, Pakistan, Australia and South Africa are second with 30 wins in the T20 World Cup.

In other second round matches of the Super 8, West Indies walloped co-host USA by nine wickets in Bridgetown, Barbados, with Shai Hope’s 39-ball unbeaten 82 powering them to a win.

Earlier, West Indies had bowled out USA for 128 in 19.5 overs.

Spinner Roston Chase took 3/19 for West Indies.

In St Lucia, South Africa prevailed over England by seven runs with Quintonde Kock making 65 off 38 balls and David Miller making 43 off 28 balls.

South Africa made 163/6 in 20 overs. In response, England were restricted to 156/6 in 20 overs. Harry Brook scored 53 off 37 balls while Liam Livingstone hit 33 off 17 balls.
