Indonesia, Japan, Tajikistan get Asian Cricket Council membership

While Japan Cricket Association and Persatuan Cricket Indonesia (Indonesia Cricket Association) get permanent ACC membership, the Tajikistan Cricket Federation has got provisional membership. The ACC membership count now stands at 27

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has granted membership to Persatuan Cricket Indonesia (Indonesian Cricket Association) and Japan Cricket Association following the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 31 in Bali, Indonesia.   

“ACC is also thrilled to extend a warm welcome to the Japan Cricket Association (Japan) and Persatuan Cricket Indonesia (Indonesia), both of whom have joined as Members at the AGM held today, after progressing through a multi-stage evaluation process,” the ACC said in a statement issued following the meeting.  

The ACC also decided to give Tajikistan membership on provisional basis.

The central Asian nation will be granted permanent membership after the ACC visits the site and approves it.

“In addition to this, the Tajikistan Cricket Federation (Tajikistan) is also set to become part of the ACC family. To clarify, membership to Tajikistan has been granted at the AGM on a provisional basis, pending a successful site visit conducted by ACC officials, after which their Membership would then be accepted as permanent,” added ACC in the statement.  

Cricket in Indonesia has gained in recent times with the National Games of the country including cricket in 2016 and the nation participating in the South East Asian (SEA) Games’ cricket event in Malaysia in 2017.

Japan has also seen a surge in cricketing activities in recent times with the country hosting Japan Cricket League (40-over competition), two T20 leagues – Japan Cup and Japan Premier League as well as the University League and two women’s cricket competitions.

The membership to these three countries has taken ACC membership to 27 members.
