Malaysia domestic T20 competition set to begin

The tournament which features nine state teams will begin on the coming Thursday and run till September 16. It will be played in three grounds and will be streamed live across the globe

The Malaysia Cricket Association (MCA)’s Men’s T20 Inter-State Championship 2023 will be held in the south-east Asian country’s Klang Valley from September 7 to September 16, featuring nine teams – Perak, Selangor, Malacca, Kelantan, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan.

“The participating teams are divided into two groups, vying for the top three spots in each group to advance to the Super Six stage. The two leading teams will face off in an electrifying final match, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete in the 3rd-place play-off match,” said the MCA in a statement.

Each team has been allowed to feature three under-19 players and four foreigners in the playing XI.

“Adding to the excitement, each team will have the privilege to include a maximum of three under-19 players in their playing XI; Furthermore, squads can register up to four foreign players, with the stipulation that one of them must be a resident who has resided in Malaysia for a minimum of three years,” added the statement.  

The matches will be live-streamed globally.

The opening match will be played between Perak and Kelantan at the Selangor Turf Club while the final and the third-place play-off will be played on September 16 at the Bayuemas Oval.

As many as three venues will be used – Selangor Turf Club, YSD UKM Oval and Bayuemas Oval.

Klang Valley is also known as Greater Kuala Lumpur and comprises Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya as well as neighbouring cities and towns in the state of Selangor.
