Nepal sweep series against Canada 3-0

Host Nepal thrash the Canadians by nine wickets in the last ODI after winning the first two ODIs by seven runs and four wickets respectively; Anil Sah emerges as top-scorer and Rohit Paudel the top wicket-taker

Nepal effected a clean sweep over Canada in the three-match ODI series in Kirtipur near the national capital of Kathmandu.

The south Asian nation won the first two ODIs by seven runs and four wickets, and then thrashed the Canadians by nine wickets in the third and final ODI played on Monday (February 12, 2024).

Canada were restricted to 232/8 in 50 overs and in response, home batsmen Anil Sah (112 not out) and Bhim Sharki (101 not out) put on unbeaten 189 runs for the second wicket to see their team through. Sah was adjudged Player of the Match.

In the second ODI played on February 10, Canada had scored 285/9 in 50 overs thanks to Aaron Johnson’s 65 at the top and 46 from fellow opener Naveen Dhaliwal as well as 38 off 38 balls from Pargat Singh at No. 3.

Nepal reached 287/6 in 45.1 overs with Anil Sah scoring 50, captain Rohit Paudel making 87 and Dev Khanal hitting 76.

In the first match on February 8, Nepal sneaked through to a seven-run win. Nepal were all out for 224 in 50 overs with opener Kushal Bhurtel making 62 off 58 balls. Canada were bowled out for 217 in 47.5 overs with skipper Rohit Paudel picking 4/22 with his off-spin. No. 4 Nicholas Kirton scored 68 and No. 3 Pargat Singh hit 50 for Canada.

Nepal batsman Anil Sah was the top-scorer in the series with 162 runs while fellow Nepalese Rohit Paudel emerged as the top wicket-taker with six wickets.
