Nepal win Women's T20 Quadrangular series

The final of the four-nation tournament in Kuala Lumpur saw Nepal win by 13 runs

Nepal women defeated Hong Kong women by 13 runs in the final on August 26 (Saturday) to win the Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series that was played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hong Kong, who elected to bat, scored 101 runs on the back of performances from Kary Chan (29 runs), Maria Antonia Lamplough (19 runs) and Shanzeen Shahzad (11 runs). The 20-year-old Nepalese off-spinner Khushi Dangol tool 3/20 in three overs.

Indu Barma’s 19 and Sita Rana Magar’s 13 helped Nepal move to 37 runs in 5.3 overs before rains started lashing. The target was revised to 25 under D/L method, leaving Nepal ahead and eventually winners.

Nepal had defeated Hong Kong earlier too in the group stage – by six wickets – in the first match and then Kuwait by 34 runs in their second match. Indu Barma had again top-scored against Kuwait with 23 runs.

Host Malaysia were the fourth team in the competition and inflicted upon Nepal their only loss in the competition. In that match, third for Nepal in group phase, Malaysia won by six wickets.

Ainna Hamizah Hashim was the top-scorer in the tournament with 91 runs while Kuwaiti left-arm spinner Mariamma Hyder and Nepali left-arm pacer Sita Rana Magar each took seven wickets to return as the top wicket-takers in the competition.

Nepal, Hong Kong and Malaysia had all got four points in the league phase but Nepal (0.853) and Hong Kong (0.193) with better net run rate finished at the top of the table to compete in the final. They were ahead of Malaysia, who had 0.007. Kuwaiti women couldn’t get a win.

The tournament started on August 22.
