Netherlands' first warm-up washed out

Australia make 166 in their turn after the overs were reduced to 23 overs. Even then the match couldn't be completed. Colin Ackermann and bowlers have a decent outing

Netherlands, the lone Associate nation to be participating in the 2023 World Cup, survived a defeat in the warm-up against Australia in Thiruvananthapuram after their match was abandoned due to rain.

Batting first, Australia scored 166/7 in 23 overs, which was the allotted number of overs following rain interruption. Steve Smith, opening the innings, made 55 off 42 balls while Cameron Green hit 34 off 26 deliveries.

Mitchell Starc made an unbeaten 24 off 22 balls.

Medium pacers Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede as well as left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe picked two wickets each while leg-spinner Shariz Ahmad took 1/24.

In response, Netherlands’ batsmen started poorly losing four wickets for 15 runs.

The South Africa-born Colin Ackermann made a fighting unbeaten 31 off 37 balls as Netherlands moved to 84/6 in 14.2 overs before rains started pelting.

Starc took 3/18 in his three overs.

Netherlands play their second and final warm-up against host India at the same venue on Tuesday, October 3.
