Despite the loss, Uganda captain Brian Masaba expressed happiness at the experience gained at the 2024 T20 World Cup; New Zealand get consolation win
New Zealand, who are already out the T20 World Cup, earned a consolation win by thrashing Uganda by nine wickets.
The Kiwis bowled out the Ugandans for just 40 runs with only Kenneth Waiswa getting into double figures with 11 runs.
New Zealand reduced Uganda to 15/5 in eighth over and from there it was tough for the African nation to rise again.
Trent Boult (2/7), Tim Southee (3/4), Mitchell Santner (2/8), Lockie Ferguson (1/9) and Rachin Ravindra (2/9) shared the wickets.
The Kiwis then coasted home in 5.2 overs, losing only the wicket of Finn Allen.
Despite the loss that saw them end fourth in the group with two points, Uganda captain Brian Masaba was happy with the outing at the T20 World Cup.
“It has been a wonderful experience to play at this level. A high performance environment in this tournament. It has done wonders for us back home, laid a platform. Have tried to interact with the players and tried to pick their brains,” said Masaba after the match.
Uganda got their sole win in the tournament, against Papua New Guinea.
New Zealand, who have already crashed out, now face Papua New Guinea in the last game.
