Pakistan's loss after declaring the first innings of a Test was their third, and the 17th instance in Test cricket history where a team declaring first innings lost the Test; Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan made a record aggregate in a Test match
Bangladesh punched above their weight to beat Pakistan by 10 wickets at Rawalpindi and register only their seventh overseas victory in their 24 years in Test cricket.
The Bangladeshis, who had beaten New Zealand in a Test in Mount Maunganui in January, 2022, also notched their third highest Test innings total – 565 – in the process. That total got them a 117-run lead in first innings after Pakistan had declared at 448/6. Pakistan then fluffed their lines, probably under pressure, to be all out for 146.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked 4/21 while Shakib al Hasan took 3/44 to lay Pakistan’s batting to waste. Mushfirqur Rahim, for his valiant 191, was adjudged Player of the Match.
This was the fourth time that Pakistan lost a Test after declaring an innings, and the third time they lost by declaring the first innings of a Test.
Here is a look at the some of the important highlights from the Test:
# In all, this was the 17th occasion where a team declaring the first innings of a Test went on to lose the Test. While Pakistan, England and South Africa have suffered this thrice, West Indies and Australia twice, India, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh only once.
#This was Bangladesh 20th win in 143 Tests they have played since 2000, the year they got inducted in Test cricket. However, this was only their seventh win overseas.
#Muhammad Rizwan’s 222 (171 not out and 50) is the highest aggregate by a Pakistani wicketkeeper in a Test match. This is also the 10th highest aggregate in a Test by a designated wicketkeeper. Andy Flower of Zimbabwe holds the top three aggregates with 341, 287, and 253.
#Mushfiqur Rahim has 11 Test hundreds, the second most for Bangladesh. He is just behind Mominul Haque who has 12 tons.
