The 21-year-old right-handed batsman powered to fourth successive T20 International half-century that helped him join the select few who have achieved the feat
Oscar Manishimwe of Rwanda on July 3 became only the ninth player to score four consecutive half-centuries in T20 Internationals after his 79 not out off 53 balls went in vain against Kenya.
The 21-year-old Manishimwe scored 59 against Malawi on June 28, 63 against Kenya on June 29, 70 against Malawi on July 2 before the 79 not out against Kenya on July 3 in the ongoing Kenya Quadrangular Cup being played in Nairobi.
He is the fifth Associate nations’ player to achieve the feat.
He may have got five consecutive T20I fifties had his 93 not out against Zambia been counted. It would have made him only the second player after Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza to achieve the feat. However, since Zambia does not have T20I status, that knock wasn’t counted as an international innings.
The right-handed Manishimwe now joins New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, West Indies’ Chris Gayle, South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks, Namibia’s Craig Williams, Canada’s Rayyan Pathan, France’s Gustav Mckeon, Japan’s Sabaorish Ravichandran, as the batsmen to get four successive half-centuries in T20 Internationals.
“Oscar Manishimwe shines at the Kenya Quadrangular Cup, delivering stellar performances with half-centuries against Malawi and Kenya, and a remarkable 93 runs off 62 balls against Zambia,” tweeted Rwanda Cricket Association ahead of the record knock.
