India scored their biggest win over Pakistan by 228 runs and the very next day lost all 10 wickets to spinners for the first time in their ODI history. However, they have ensured entry into the final
Two successive days at Asia Cup saw plenty of records.
On Monday, when India defeated Pakistan in front of sparse crowd, a thing that doesn’t stand right in a game between two arch-rivals, they registered their biggest win over Pakistan in the history of ODIs.
India won by 228 runs, which incidentally is also their fourth biggest win in ODIs. It needs to be remembered that very recently, in January this year of 2023, India had scored a 317-run win over Sri Lanka, one of the other competitors at Asia Cup. That one stands on top of the list as the largest.
This was also Pakistan’s second biggest defeat after the 234-run loss to Sri Lanka in Lahore in 2009.
On Tuesday, it was India’s turn to concede a dubious record even though they won the match with ease and entered the final of the tournament. For the first time in their history, they lost all 10 wickets to spinners in ODIs. It was also only the second time that Sri Lankan spinners bagged all 10 wickets in an ODI.
This is the 11th time India have reached the Asia Cup final and the 10th time in ODI Asia Cup. They are also the most successful with six ODI Asia Cup titles and one T20I Asia Cup title.
