After pace bowler Charlie Cassell's remarkable debut against Oman, batsman Michael English scores 107 as Scotland beat Namibia to move to top of table and enter 2026 Cricket World Cup Qualifier along with Namibia, Canada and Netherlands
Scotland continued producing players making remarkable debut. A couple of days after Charlie Cassell produced the best ODI bowling effort on debut with 7/21, came a century from the bat of opener Michael English, who too was playing the first international of his career.
The right-handed English scored 107 off 122 balls as Scotland defeated Namibia in an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 game at Forthill, Dundee.
“I really hadn’t imagine it going like this. Obviously, I wanted it. Just to get the space. [Charlie’s debut] gave me the desire to perform well on the debut. I had the freedom [from the captain] to go out and do that. I don’t normally get nervous but I was definitely a bit nervous,” he told Scotland Cricket.
“Skipper Richie Berrington made it look easy for for me, someone on debut. I felt he was taking the pressure off me. Just accelerate the scoring when he had to. I don’t think I’d get my hundred without Richie’s knock (89 off 81).
The two shared 170-run partnership for the third wicket.
Scotland made 301/6 in 50 overs and in response Namibia were bowled out for 163 in 40.1 overs. Skipper Gerhard Erasmus top-scored with 53.
Cassell went wicketless this time but Bradley Curne picked 3/25 and Brandon McCullen took 2/16.
Scotland finished on top of the points table with nine points in seven games. Canada and Namibia and second and third respectively, both with eight points.
All the three teams along with Netherlands have qualified for the 2026 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
The four bottom teams in the tournament, Oman, Nepal, USA and UAE will play the 2026 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff.
