The Zimbabwe skipper has offered 25 free tickets per match for the five T20 International matches that are scheduled to be held in Harare on July 6, 7, 10, 13, and 14
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has offered 125 free tickets to fans for the five-match T20 International series against India that is scheduled to begin in Harare from Saturday (July 6, 2024).
All the five matches against a second-string India are scheduled to be held at the Harare Sports Club in the Zimbabwean capital city.
“As a small gesture of appreciation there will be 125 free tickets for our fans, 25 tickets per game on strictly first come first get basis. Kuda (Zimbabwean cricket official) will be at gate 3 from 11:15. We appreciate your support and love for chevrons. See you all at sports club,” tweeted Raza, who is a spin bowling all-rounder.
But this initiative is not new for the 38-year-old, who offers free tickets ahead of every series.
Raza, responding to a query from www.theflyslip.online, said, "For every tour I give away free tickets to fans as a sign of appreciation."
Zimbabwe Cricket is struggling to keep pace with international cricket, especially due to its team’s poor performance over the last two decades that has also been caused by political instability. The current tour by the Indian team is supposed to be important to rekindle the interest among people.
The Harare Sports Club was packed to the rafters for the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cup qualification tournaments. But that was, of course, with Zimbabwe winning their matches even though they failed to cross the hurdle at the last step and failed to qualify for both the editions.
They couldn’t qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup too although their 2022 outing was impressive.
This T20 series against Shubman Gill-led India, in that sense, is what Zimbabwe Cricket is relying on to show to the world that they are among the best.
