The T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, scheduled to be held on June 9 in New York, has been oversubscribed 200 times, the International Cricket Council has said while announcing the sale of tickets. The matches in USA have drawn more interest than games in the West Indies in the public ballot
The India-Pakistan game at the forthcoming T20 World Cup, to be held in New York, was oversubscribed 200 times during the public ballot that preceded the general ticket sales, a statement from the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed.
The statement also announced that the general tickets have gone on sale.
“General ticket sales for the World Cup, which will feature the global superstars of the game, go on sale from 10h00 Antigua Standard time today (February 22) at tickets.t20worldcup.com,” said a statement from ICC.
“Public ballot sees an unprecedented demand for tickets, with India v Pakistan fixture in New York more than 200-times oversubscribed,” added the statement.
According to the ICC, the public ticket ballot system was introduced by the ICC to give the fans a fair and equitable chance to apply for tickets.
In a press release issued on February 1, the ICC stated, “With demand for all games expected to be high, fans can apply for up to six tickets per match and for as many matches as they want at any stage during the ballot period from now until 23h59 Antigua Standard Time on 7 February 2024.
“The ballot is not a first-come first-served system and all applicants within the seven-day window will have an equal chance of obtaining tickets. Following the ballot, any remaining tickets will go on general sale on 22 February at tickets.t20worldcup.com.
“Remaining tickets after the public ballot go on sale today, 22 February, at 10h00am Antigua Standard Time,” the ICC added in a statement.
During the ballot period, over three million ticket applications from 161 countries were received. Ticket allocations are currently unavailable to nine T20 World Cup matches scheduled in the USA, with the India versus Pakistan game on June 9 in New York oversubscribed more than 200 times.
So, the best chance for fans, who couldn’t go through public ballot, is to watch the World Cup in the West Indies.
The largest-ever T20 Word Cup — with 20 countries — will be played in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29. February 22 marked 100 days to the start of the tournament.
