Cricket Cranes beat Kenya by 91 runs to win the title they were already holding; the win comes after the team qualified for the T20 World Cup
Close on the heels of qualifying for the T20 World Cup to be held in USA and the West Indies next year, the Cricket Cranes, with which the Uganda national cricketers are referred, won the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) T20 Cup title in Benoni. They defeated Kenya with a huge margin of 91 runs in the final.
Uganda had finished on top of the points table, winning two games and losing one in Group A, and by virtue of that got to face Kenya, who topped the Group B, in the final.
Uganda were put in to bat and scored 186/8 in 20 overs. No. 3 Robinson Obuya top-scored with 57 off 38 balls. In response, Kenya were bowled out for 95 in 15.4 overs with left-arm spinner Henry Ssenyondo picking 4/20 and left-arm medium pacer Diensh Nakrani taking 3/17.
Ssenyondo was declared Player of the Match while Botswana’s left-handed batsman Karabo Motlhanka winning Player of the Tournament Award.
"One brings two! The Cricket Cranes defended their Africa Cup title after defeating Kenya by 91 runs in the final," tweeted Uganda Cricket Association.
"Henry Senyondo wins both the Player of the match award (against Kenya) and the award for the Best Bowler of the tournament. He ends the tournament with 16 wickets," it said in another tweet.
