USA U-19 qualify for 2024 World Cup

USA U-19 team defeats Canada U-19 by seven wickets in the Americas Qualifier to make it to next year's U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka

United States of America under-19s have qualified for the 2024 U-19 Men’s World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka. They defeated Canada under-19s by seven wickets in a rain-affected game at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in Toronto. The win in the final game of the Americas Qualifier helped USA top the standings and qualify.

USA under-19s had won the toss and elected to field.

Canada scored 92 for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 22 overs. Yash Mondkar top-scored with 22 runs while Ajayveer Singh made 18 runs.

Parth Patel was the best bowler, picking three wickets for 17 runs in four overs.

In reply, USA under-19s reached the target in 17.2 overs, scoring 96 for the loss of three wickets.

Pranav Chettipalayam top-scored with unbeaten 36 off 39 balls while Utkarsh Srivastava made 25 not out off 28 balls. Chettipalayam had earlier scored a century against Argentina in a league phase match.

Srivastava was declared player of the match as he had also taken two wickets for 16 runs.

USA became the 16th team to qualify for the tournament next year.

USA under-19s skipper Rishi Ramesh said, “It’s been a long journey for us in the USA and we’re finally here. We’ve made history and are proud to represent our country.”

The 16 teams that will participate in the U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka are: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, USA, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

India are the defending under-19 World Cup champions.
