Who comprise the 17 voters for ICC Chairman's election

22 Aug, 2024

Among the 17 voters, only the independent woman director is yet to be decided, after Indra Nooyi's six-year term ended last month. The last date for filing nominations is August 27 and if there are more than two candidates in fray, the voting will take place

All eyes in the coming months will be on the election of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, a post that will be vacated in November by New Zealand’s Greg Barclay, who has decided not to go for the third term. Barclay was first elected in 2020.

The last date for filing nominations is August 27 and if there are more than two candidates in fray, the voting will take place.

The candidates will look to get a simple majority from the 17 voters, that is nine votes.

The 17 voters comprise 12 Full Members, three Associate Member representatives, the independent Woman Director, and Chairman.

The ICC Full Members comprise the boards of the Test nations – Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe.

The three Associate Member representatives are Imran Khwaja of Singapore, Mubashshir Usmani of United Arab Emirates, and Mahinda Vallipuram of Malaysia. They were elected at the recent ICC Annual General Meeting.

The post of ICC’s independent woman director is vacant after Indra Nooyi’s six-year term ended last month. The Chennai-born Indra, a former PepsiCo chief, was elected as the first independent woman director of ICC in 2018.

The outgoing Chairman, Barclay, will also vote.
