Zimbabwe's T20 World Cup chances hang in balance after another loss

Chevrons lose to Uganda by five wickets in the Africa T20 World Cup Qualifier to slip to fourth in the points table; Namibia, Kenya and Uganda cruise to occupy top three slots

Zimbabwe's 2024 T20 World Cup chances suffered a big jolt after they lost their third game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023 to Uganda by five wickets on Sunday in Windhoek, Namibia.

After being put in to bat, Zimbabwe made 136/7 in 20 overs on what was said to be a tough pitch to bat on with only skipper Sikandar Raza making a notable contribution with 48 off 39 balls.

Left-arm pace bowler Dinesh Nakrani, who was born in Kutch, Saurashtra, India, took 3/14.

In response, Uganda chased down the total in 19.1 overs, losing five wickets.

Right-handed batsman Riazat Ali Shah, who was born in Gilgit, Pakistan, top-scored with 42 off 28 balls.  Left-hander Alpesh Ramjani made 40 off 26 balls with two sixes and four fours.  

Zimbabwe lost their first match to Namibia by seven wickets before beating Tanzania by nine wickets. They are now fourth in the points table which is led by Namibia on six points. Kenya, also on six points, are in second position.  

On Saturday, Namibia defeated Rwanda by 68 runs under DLS method while Kenya beat Tanzania by 50 runs.

On Friday, Namibia beat Uganda by six wickets while there was no result in the match between Nigeria and Rwanda.
