Cricket association of the southern African nation hosts a programme to train coaches in the African continent. The aim is to make cricket coaching fun so that more kids take up the sport
The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) lent a helping hand to African cricket by organising a three-day ICC Coach Tutor Course at the southern African nation's capital city, Gaborone, from September 10 to 12, 2023.
The course, hosted by BCA witnessed 15 coaches from across the African continent acquiring required knowledge to become facilitators to guide coaches in their respective countries.
Justine Ligyalingi from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and two educators from South Africa, Chris Cardoso and Jolene Campher, chipped in with their expertise to train the coach tutors.
The focus of the course was to make cricket fun and enjoyable for youngsters and attract more kids to cricket. The tutors also encouraged the coaches to take up ICC online courses to upgrade themselves.
“The course was very practical based and has fully equipped us. I would love to see cricket coaches upgrading their skills through regular ICC coaching courses and impacting them into [becoming] players. I will also play my part effectively to ensure the game is loved not only by kids, but by everyone in the community,” Victor Yao Tetteh, who was the coach from Ghana to undergo training at the workshop, was quoted as saying by Facebook page, TalksenseSports.
GCA also has Obed Harvey, the senior national female team coach, as the coach tutor besides Victor Yao Tetteh.
