Kenya, Malawi set up title clash in Kenya Quadrangular Cup

09 Jul, 2024

Kenya progress to final with an unbeaten record while Malawi emerge ahead of Zambia and Rwanda

Kenya and Malawi set up a title clash in the ongoing Kenya Quadrangular Cup 2024 with Zambia and Rwanda slated to play the third place playoff of the T20 tournament being played in Nairobi.

The last round matches between Malawi and Kenya, and Zambia and Rwanda were abandoned without a ball bowled at the Sikh Union Club Ground. There wasn’t even toss in both the games.

Each team was supposed to play nine matches in the tournament that began on June 28 and will culminate on July 10.

The last round games wouldn’t have had any impact as both Kenya and Malawi were well clear of the other two teams.

Kenya are the leaders on the points table with 17 points in nine matches. They won eight of those nine games and split points in Tuesday’s abandoned game.

Malawi are second on points table with nine points, winning four for eight points. Tuesday’s abandoned game earned them a point to take the total to nine.

Zambia and Rwanda won two games each and finished third and fourth respectively on five points. Zambia was ahead of Rwanda due to better net run rate (-0.806 to -1.324).

Rwanda and Zambia both managed to beat Malawi once in the tournament. Kenya, the 2003 ODI World Cup semi-finalists, are the only unbeaten team.
